Recovery Support Peer Specialist Training
Recovery Support Peer Specialist Training is a five-day, 40-hour training designed to provide individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to become certified as a Recovery Support Peer Specialist in Texas. This training was developed for individuals who have lived experience of mental health challenges, and who wish to to use their experience to positively impact individuals, communities, and systems.
The Core training must be completed before you take to the 5-day training. If you will have completed your Core training by the start of your RSPS training, a provisional application will be accepted, contingent upon successful completion of the Core Training Assessment.
Training Eligibility Requirements
- Age 18 or older.
- 1 year of lived experience in recovery from a substance use or a co-occurring substance use and mental health
condition. - Desire to utilize lived experiences to help others with their recovery process.
- Willingness to publicly identify as a person in Recovery from a substance use or co-occurring substance use and
mental health condition.
Application, Selection, and Participation Requirements
- The application must be completed in its entirety.
- Applicants must agree to attend and actively participate in five full days of training.
- Participants may request to be excused for a maximum of four (4) hours for legitimate emergency situations. Via Hope reserves the right to approve or deny the request.
- Attendees will participate in discussion and role-plays utilizing personal experiences as individuals in recovery, rather than clinical roles or training.
- Attendees must be on camera the majority of the training.
- Participants must pass the exam following training to be eligible to apply for certification to the Texas Certification Board.
This training is required to become a Peer Specialist in Texas. The training is followed immediately by an online knowledge assessment.
Via Hope training content is provided via Zoom through an online learning platform. Participants will be required to have an active internet connection and be on camera for the majority of the training. Individual computer access is required; participants will not be able to log on in a group environment.

- The registration fee for this training is $650. Payment is required at time of registration.
